Founder & Managing Director

Peter has worked for over 25 years in the oil and gas business in Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and North America.

Peter has established and managed geophysical operations in Kenya, Nigeria, Angola, Egypt, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. His previous positions include Managing Director of SOHI-Gas Lamu Ltd, the holder of two exploration blocks in Kenya, Vice President (EAME) for Geotrace Technologies, Area Manager for Western Geophysical, Nigeria Resident DP Manager for Western Geophysical and several years developing geophysics software in Canada and the U.S.A. He has worked as a consultant and operations advisor to oil companies, service companies and national governments within Africa.

A UK citizen but born in Tanzania, Peter has an MA in Engineering from Cambridge University.

Don Riaroh

Don Riaroh

Founder & Director

Don is one of Africa’s most respected petroleum geologists.

Don’s previous positions include Director of SOHI-Gas Lamu Ltd, Chief Geologist and Director of E&P at Kenya’s Ministry of Energy where he was in charge of Petroleum, Geothermal, Coal and Nuclear Energy. He has been a Board member of many state corporations including the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK), Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) and Ewaso Ngiro Development Corporation and a Consultant Geologist for a number of companies operating in Kenya. He has served as the national chairman of various professional bodies and committees including the international Geological Correlation Project and the World Petroleum Congress and was one of the founders of the East African Petroleum Conference (EAPC), now the major forum for the petroleum industry in eastern African. He is a member of African Rift Geothermal Development Facility, the National Science Committee and Kenya National Commission for UNESCO.

A Kenyan national, Mr. Riaroh holds an MSc from the University of Leicester, UK, and a BSc from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

Dr Alan Stein

Non-Executive Director

Dr. Stein is a geologist with over 20 years’ experience in the international oil and gas industry. Alan began his career with oil consultants Dolan & Associates where he worked on projects in Europe, Australia and the Far East and in 1994, he was one of the founding partners of the IKODA consultancy group. In 1998, Alan was appointed Managing Director of Fusion Oil & Gas plc following his role in the negotiation of the acquisition of interest’s offshore Mauritania in return for the provision of technical services. These became the foundation assets of a broader portfolio that was sold to Fusion Oil & Gas.

Following the sale of Fusion, Alan was one of the two founding executive directors of Ophir Energy plc where he held the position of Managing Director and Deputy Chairman until 2012. Alan was actively involved across all aspects of Ophir’s development from building the portfolio, negotiating commercial transactions, building the capabilities of the organization, capital raisings and interfacing with investors culminating with the successful IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 2011.

Dr. Stein Alan is a non-executive chairman of Neon Energy Limited, an ASX-listed petroleum exploration and production company, as well as Hanno Resources Limited, a private mineral exploration company. Alan is also a Partner at Havoc Partners LLP, a natural resources investment partnership focussed primarily on the oil and gas sector.

Matthew Clarke

Matthew Clarke

Investment Director

Matthew is a widely respected figure in the financial sector and particularly in oil and gas investment. He was a seed shareholder in Ophir Energy Plc and Turkana Oil and a nonexecutive director of AIM listed Mediterranean Oil and Gas plc as well as the boards of a number of international mining and financial companies.

Matthew trained as a solicitor at Linklaters and Paines from 1988-1995 when he joined Robert Fleming as a Director until 2001. He was then at Societe Generale from 2001-2003. In 2003, Matthew co-founded Merlin Partners, an FCA Regulated corporate finance advisory firm that specialises in assisting entrepreneurs and management teams from all over the world in their dealings with the City and Wall Street. To date Merlin has raised over a billion dollars of equity for its clients in a variety of different structures as well as assisting its clients in the debt markets.

Chris Budden

Chris Budden

Country Manager, Comoros

Chris has 25 years’ experience in seismic data acquisition and processing with oil and gas majors and technical service providers.

Chris has worked as a project manager at Schlumberger’s WesternGeco seismic data processing centre in Houston, as a London-based remote centre manager for Angola and as Resident Manager for Western Geophysical in Nigeria. Prior to that he spent six years with Elf Petroleum (now Total) in Lagos, Nigeria, and more than ten years working on seismic projects around the world for Halliburton Geophysical Services and GSI.

Chris holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia.
